Death, appropriately known as losing lives, happens when Yoshi is hurt by an enemy or when a baby is kidnapped.
Losing all of Yoshi's lives can trigger a game over, when this happened Yoshi is forced back to the world map.
Games
The death feature occurs in Yoshi's Island DS, Yoshi's Island: Super Mario Advance 3 and Yoshi's New Island.
